Islington Gardeners protects and enhances the green spaces in Islington and brings people together with year-round gardening activities including visits, events and talks.

We have more than 170 members who are interested in all aspects of gardens and gardening, including houseplants, window boxes, balconies, patios, roof gardens, communal gardens as well as attracting and supporting pollinators of all kinds. You can be eco-conscious or green fingered, and you don’t even have to have a garden or live in Islington to join.

  • IG members benefit from:

    • Visits to interesting gardens (some visits are for IG members only)

    • Small grants for tree pits and forgotten corners (IG members only)

    • WhatsApp group for news and gardening hints and tips (IG members only)

    • An annual plant sale (our main fundraiser)

    • Illustrated talks and demonstrations

    • Regular newsletters about IG news, events and all things gardening

    • Social media (Instagram, Facebook and YouTube)

    • Film screenings

    • Seed Swaps

    • Spring bulb offering

    • Garden competitions

    • Gardening advice 

    We organise several coach trips annually to beautiful gardens within convenient reach of London. We also organise trips by bus, train or tube to gardens in and around London during the year. 

    Members get priority booking access to all of our events and day trips. Some of our events are for members only. We will make this clear on the listing for each event. Our public events are listed on Eventbrite. Make sure you follow us there.

    Good to know: IG members also benefit from reduced entry to De Beauvoir Gardeners monthly illustrated talks (£2.50 instead of £5). However there will be some events that are for DBG members only. They will make this clear before the events take place.

  • From 2026, the membership year is 1st January – 31st December. You may join at any time during the year. As most of our activities take place between March and September, anyone who joins after 30th September will automatically be enrolled for the following year.

    The 2026 membership rates are:  

    £10.00 single by BACS or cheque

    £12.00 family / couple by BACS or cheque

  • Joining IG is easy to do via MemberMojo.

    We prefer internet payment (BACS) or standing order. Our account details are:

    Standing order payments should reach us around the start of the membership year on 1st January.

    We do (rather reluctantly) still accept cheque payments. Send your cheque (signed, dated & made payable to Islington Gardeners) along with your full name, street address, phone number/s and email address (if you have one) to: LUCY HODGES, 35 ABERDEEN PARK, LONDON N5 2AR

    Good to know: We will soon be able to accept online payments. Stand by for details of that.

  • Our membership cards are optional. However it may be useful if you are interested in a weekday discount of 10% at local garden centres. This includes:

    • North One Gardens, 25 Englefield Road, N1 4EU

    You can collect your membership card for free at one of our events.

  • We are happy to have members organise visits to local gardens, propagate / donate plants and bake for the annual plant sale.

    We are happy to feature guest contributors for website blog posts, newsletter items, photos and videos. Just let us know if you’d like to take part in IG in that way. 

    We also encourage Forgotten Corners and Tree Pits, whereby a group of members adopt an area of public land near their homes and take over its maintenance, transforming it into a beautiful space for the benefit of all who pass by. Islington Council’s Greenspace is very supportive of this initiative.
